Leviticus 16 Part 3:: The Offerings In A Nutshell: The Man Christ Jesus

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. 1Timothy 2:5-6

Leviticus 16 presents the one day a year when the high priest was allowed to go within the veil into the most holy place before the mercy seat where the LORD dwelt among the children of Israel. That day was the day of atonement when the high priest would make atonement for the people so they could be cleansed from their of the past year. (See Leviticus 16:30)

The purpose of this lesson is to get you to meditate upon the perfect, eternal offering: the man Christ Jesus .

As the bullock He had determined to go to the cross and there was nothing or no one who could stop Him. Jesus knew everything that He was going to have to endure. He knew Isaiah 52:13-53:12 (See Luke 9:51, 18:31). He was in so great agony that he sweat great drops of blood (Luke 22:44) yet He was went to the cross for us. No one could force The Christ to go to the cross it was by His own voluntary will (Leviticus 1:3). He was the only man strong enough bare the burden the total sum of God's wrath for all the sins of the world.

As the ram of the trespass offering (Leviticus 5;15) Jesus Christ paid for how our sin offended God.

As the lamb or kid of the goats, the Son of God was carried to the cross by the Father. As the lamb He had no choice but to do the will of the Father. Without hesitation the Son of God did the will of the Father.

As the turtledoves or young pigeons he was made to be the offering for even the poorest of the people even hose who had to sell themselves into slavery.

As the fine flour of the meat offering he lived a perfect, sinless life. Proving He was the one and only offering that could satisfy the just demands the thrice Holy God made to pay for our sins.

As the scapegoat the man Jesus Christ, God the Son allowed a crown of thorns to be platted upon His head. His sinless body was covered by the blood from the wounds of the thorns. The iniquity or wickedness of every transgression that had been committed or will ever be committed was place upon His head and carried away.

The man Jesus Christ deserved to be clothed with the holy priestly garment. He deserved to have His head covered with the miter that read HOLINESS TO THE LORD. It was for you and me that Jesus Christ left His throne in Heaven and put off His glorious robe that Isaiah described, in Isaiah Chapter 6, as having a train that filled the temple. He took upon a body of flesh. He covered that body with garments of a common man. He lived a completely perfect sinless life.

The Son of God than allowed himself to spat upon, stripped naked and His skin and flesh to be shredded and torn off his body. He allowed a crown of thorns to be platted upon His head and his naked body to be robed in His blood. He allowed Himself to be nailed to the cross and lifted up for all to see.

All of Israel should have known what happening and should have rushed to that cross and looked up and said, Lord God Almighty Maker and Redeemer Of Israel the offering for our sins, Savior, HOLINESS TO THE LORD. Than on the third day all of Israel should have been gathered around the tomb waiting for their Lord to raise from the dead and walk out of that tomb. Praising Him as their Savior and King. The sad truth is, Israel missed it.

This is what the Christ , the son of the living God, did for all mankind. His death, burial and resurrection declared every person savable, able to be saved.

I will end with these two verses.

Leviticus 16:30 For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD.

Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
