HOLINESS TO THE LORD Part 1  The Holy Crown

Holy is an adjective, it is descriptive in nature. We should usually consider Holiness to be a noun. Holiness does not define something, it is something.

And Holiness belongs to God [Hebrews 12:10]

Exodus 28:36 And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD.

Exodus 29:6 And thou shalt put the mitre upon his head, and put the holy crown upon the mitre. [Exodus 39:30; Leviticus 8:9]

·        The holy crown witnessed that the priest is set apart to a holy service. The people were to regard him as the LORD’s chosen vessel. The LORD chose Aaron to be the high priest and the line of the priests.

·        The holy crown was a sacred holy witness to the office of the high priest and the LORD whom he served and that he belonged to God.

·        Every specific detail of the garments of the high priest had a purpose. They showed the high priest was clothed in the holiness of the LORD.

The high priest was to represent the LORD’s holiness before the people.

·        Exodus 15:11 .  .  .Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like thee, glorious in holiness,

·        Psalm 30:4; 97:12 .  .  .  and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. Knowing the high priest was dressed in his holy garments with the holy crown, serving before the LORD, should have remembered the LORD”s holiness with rejoicing.

Jeremiah 2:3 teaches when they entered the wilderness Israel was holiness unto the LORD

What happened when Israel forgot His holiness

What happened in Israel at the remembrance of His holiness

·        King Ahaz (of Judah) led Judah into gross sin and the profaning of the LORD’s holiness. His son Hezekiah, the next king of Judah, remembered.

·        In 2Chronicless 31 Hezekiah reestablished the priests in their set offices and commanded the people to bring tithes and offerings so the priest could did not have to work in the fields and so they could dedicate time to the performance of  their duties. Verse 31:18 ends with  .  .  .  . for in their set office they sanctified themselves in holiness. The people brought so much to the temple their offerings were piled up in heaps And Judah prospered beyond imagination because of Hezekiah and the dedication of the priests..

Job 9:32-35 For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment. 33 Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both. 34 Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me: 35 Then would I speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me.

·        The LORD appointed the high priest went to be the daysman for Israel. The high priest in his holy garments crowned with HOLINESS TO THE LORD was betwixt the LORD and the people.

·        He would bear the iniquity of the people for which the holy sacrifices of the people were offered. Only holiness unto the Lord could bear such a burden.

·        Then once a year the high priest would go into the most holy place to make atonement for the people and place their iniquity upon the head of the scapegoat.
