The Crown Of Thorns Part 2

Hebrews 12:2 One of the things Christ endured on the way to the cross was having the  crown of thorns platted upon his head.

·        Matthew 27:29; Mark 15:15; John 19:2,5

The Crown Of The High Priest

·        Exodus 28:36-37 Upon the mitre of the high priest was a golden plate that read HOLINESS TO THE LORD. The high priest and the people were always reminded of the sanctity of his office.

·        Exodus 39:30-31; Leviticus 8:9 the golden plate is the holy crown

The mitre of the high priest was not the crown;

·        it was HOLINESS TO THE LORD.

Consider the crown of thorns

Thorns

·        Thorns were part of the original curse of the ground in Genesis 3:17-19

·        The curse of the ground began with the curse of the serpent in Genesis 3:14

·        Deuteronomy 28:15-68  The curses upon Israel for not harkening unto the voice of the LORD when they were in the land.

·        Numbers 33:55 Israel’s thorns in their sides. The curse of  those not driven out of the land

·        Isaiah 32:13 Upon the land of my people shall come up thorns and briers; yea, upon all the houses of joy in the joyous city:

The nation of Israel began worshipping the devils in high places, the gods of the nations they were to drive out of the land of promise. Those thorns in their sides made them a people nigh unto cursing and deserving death.

Thorns are seen in the parable of the sower who went forth to sew

·        Matthew 13:22

·        Luke 8:11;Mark 4:14 Seed is a picture of the word of God

·        Matthew 13:19 The ground is a picture of the heart

The curse of the ground is a picture of the curse of the heart of man

·        Genesis 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

·        Adam and Eve could no longer dwell in the presence of the Lord; their innocence came to an end

Consider the crown Jesus Christ wore to and upon the cross:

The crown of thorns that was platted upon the head of Jesus Christ on his way to the cross tied his crucifixion to the original sin of Adam. The curse of the ground pictured how mans’ hearts are cursed and unable to offer acceptable worship to God, on his own.

·        Hebrews 6:6-8: (8) But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.

·        The crown of thorns lead to Christ being despised and rejected

·        See Isaiah 53:3

·        The crown of thorns was a crown of  cursing

Deuteronomy 21:22-23 And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree: 23 His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

The curse of the law

·        Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

·        To achieve righteousness through keeping the law you must keep every jot and tittle of both the letter and the spirit of the law.

·        The curse of the law you cannot keep it and you should carry that curse to the grave

Galatians 3:13

·        Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

·        Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

·        Romans 7:6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter

·        Romans 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

·        Colossians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

The crown of thorns was meant to be a crown of mocking, God meant it for good to save much people alive. See Genesis 50:19-21

Christ was made to be a curse for us and carried that curse to the grave so we wouldn’t have to.

We can offer acceptable worship to God through Jesus Christ.
