Chapter 11 Part 1

V11:1 I say then ties chapter 11 to the statement in 10:21

·        Paul's message to the Gentile Christians in Chapter 11: God continues to spread out His hand today to the gainsaying people; So!, God is not through with Israel. God forbid that Christians would think that.

V2-6 God has always preserved  a remnant of Israel for Himself in the past and will today (V5),the time of the election of grace, the Church age

There is a remnant of the Jews who are going to be of the election of grace, or saved, among the Jews because they accept Christ as their savior by grace through faith unto obedience of the Gospel.

V7a What then?, or since it is salvation by grace only Israel as a nation has not gained what it has sought for through it's history, righteousness.

·        God redeemed the nation of Israel (Isaiah 43:1) Israel believed this to mean it a righteous nation of redeemed individuals because of their works in keeping the law.

·        Since Israel the nation never earned God's righteousness they never gained it.

·        BUT! the election of the election of faith have obtained the redemption and righteousness the nation has been seeking for.

Romans 9:31 - 10:3; 2Corinthians 3:14, 1Peter 1:2

All, both Jews and Gentiles. who accept Jesus Christ as their savior by faith in His finished work upon the cross are part of the election of faith

The nation seeks the promises made to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob

The saved Jews have already received what they sought after.

So have we saved Gentiles. We have received what we sought after!

V7b-8  The unsaved Jews eyes have been blinded. God made it harder for the Jews to hear the truth of the Gospel when they heard the Gospel. The spirit of slumber would cause them to be as if they would sleep through the preaching of the word of faith, the gospel.

V9-10 When Jesus Christ came and went to the cross Israel as a nation rejected every teaching in the Old Testament concerning Jesus Christ even the Passover table. They stumbled over the true memorial in the Passover table and how it pointed to their Redeemer, the Lamb of God.

See Deuteronomy 29:4 with 29:19-20; Psalm 69:23

·        The Jews thought the Passover was about the redeemed instead of the Redeemer.

·        God has darkened their eyes and instead of bowing toward God in worship they lean away from Him as one might do to avoid a threatening person, saying stay away. The Jews did not want the Christ who died for their sins.

·        See 11:8 with Isaiah 6:9-10
