Chapters 9-11 Part 1

Chapters 9-11 seem to be written to the Jewish Christians who may have begun to wonder if God was done with Israel

Romans 11:13a For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles

·        Note in V1:1-5 did not write to the Jews, he wrote about them;

V11:13b I magnify mine office:

·        His office: apostle to the Gentiles

·        Magnify: enlarge so the details may be seen

·        They needed to see the big picture; so do we.

·        Keep in mind this statement: to the Jew first and then the Greek

·        The Gentile Christians had to be stirred away from the heresy and blasphemy of the false doctrine of replacement theology; that is  God has rejected the Jews and has replaced the nation of Israel with the church and the promises to Abraham will go to the church.

V1:1-3 Paul demonstrated his deep love for the unsaved Jews, his unsaved kinsmen in the flesh. Paul knew the wondrous eternal blessings he had in Christ. But Paul, if it were possible (and it is not) he would give up all he had in Christ and be "damned to Hell" if it meant the salvation of the Jews.

·        Acts 18:6 Paul knew the consequences of the actions of the Jews and his statement "I will go unto the Gentiles".

·         V11:25 blindness in part is happened to Israel

·        This was not decided by Paul but Holy Spirit.

·        In V1-3 He shows his love for his kinsmen in the flesh: the Jews

Note; accursed in V3 is from Greek word "anathema' (see Galatians 1:8-9) doomed to destruction and misery in Hell.

V1:4-5 His kinsmen in the flesh

·        To whom pertaineth the adoption and the glory (see V6)

Ø     (the nation was glorified above all nations)

Ø      (glory of dwelled among the people in the tabernacle)

·        the covenants, the law, the service and the promises

·        They have claim to the fathers (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob)

·        They had first claim to Christ who is over all of the fathers and God blessed from eternity past and eternity future. Amen!

·        remember to the Jew first and also to the Greek

·        V3:1-2 ¶ What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?  Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.

V6a See V3:3 Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

·        When God sent His word to Israel it accomplished exactly what He wanted it to accomplish in the past.

·        It will accomplish exactly what God wants it to in the future.

·        Isaiah 46: 10  . .  .  . My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

The statement is made, "The Bible said it, I believe it, That settles it". The problem with this statement is the "I believe it" adds to the "that settles it". The fact is that God' word is true even if no one ever believed it.  It is settled in Heaven  Palms 119:89 ¶ LAMED. For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven
