Chapters 7 & 8 Part 3

Chapter 7 "The Law" in 14 verses,  Chapter 8"The Spirit" is in 14 verses Out two natures

·        The inward or inner man indwelled by the Holy Spirit is the part of us that is in Christ seated in heavenly places has died unto sin. It is not the organs of the body. Spirit and soul.

·        The flesh or outward man that has not died, yet, where sin is in it's members. The body of flesh.

-1Peter 1:15-16  Taught that we are to be holy for God is Holy. is was  written Leviticus 11;44, 19:2, 20:7

Paul proclaimed in this epistle that these baby Christians were free from sin to serve righteousness. Could it be they were asking since I want to sin and sometimes give in to the desire to sin, is our salvation real. In

Chapter 7 Paul begins to answer their doubts

·        Christians are free from being bound to the law and married to Christ. But The flesh is in conflict with the Spirit over the mind of Christians

·        Christians still sin because of the sin is in their flesh. They will desire in their minds to do what is right but the flesh makes it difficult to do it.

·        These "baby' Christians can find comfort in the fact that Paul also had the same battle going on between the mind and the flesh and his flesh would win some battles.

·        Paul never hinted that they were not saved because they still sin.

Read 7:24 & 25 with 8:1 & 2 He ended chapter 7 and begins chapter 8

The assurance their eternal salvation to those in Christ; the inward man - -  Even when the outward man sins.

·        This verse is not speaking about the physical body it is condemned; the flesh has not died yet. Sin can destroy the physical body. The physical body will suffer condemnation.

·        V8:16 with Titus 1:2 and 1John 3:20 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God

·        The inner man indwelled by the Holy Spirit is in Christ and walks after the Spirit and is saved from further condemnation. Free from the law of sin and death. secure in Christ in heavenly places.

V83-4 The how and why we are set free from the law of sin and death

·        The law made sin abound (seen clearly to be exceeding sinful) being made sin for us Christ condemned sin in his flesh. Through His resurrection.

·        V4 Why are we saved: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. The inner man walks in the Spirit every moment

·        So we will fulfill first commandment. Mark 12:28-30; Ecclesiastes 12:13, 1Corinthians 4:9; Isaiah 43:7

V8:4-8 Speaks of two people and what they seek and obey

·        Those who walk after the flesh  and those who walk after the Spirit

·        Those who are carnally minded seek after the things of the flesh cannot please God.

V9 also speaks of two groups of people'

·        Those in whom Spirit God dwells (See 8:14)

·        Those who do not have the Spirit and have no part of Christ or pleasing Him (not the sons of God0

In the Spirit is not the same as walking after the Spirit

In the flesh is not the same as walking after the flesh (carnally minded)

·        Those in the flesh do not have the Spirit of God and can only walk carnally minded after the flesh. Attempting to please God while in the flesh is vanity with no eternal value.

·        Those in the Spirit have a choice to walk after the Spirit and please God or walk carnally minded after the flesh

·        V14 walking after the Spirit is being led by the Spirit

V8:10-13 See V2-4 again See V7:18, Genesis 6:5 Galatians 6:8

·        V 10, 12 That which is dead requires on attention, no need to be fed. Our mortal bodies and the members are dead to sin and we are free from walking after the flesh. It becomes a choice

·        V11 Our mortal bodies will be raised from the dead. But today The Holy Spirit has quickened those dead bodies (V10) to walk after the Spirit and fulfill V$

·        V13 See Colossians 3:1-2,5 Since we are risen with Christ we are to set our affection on things above and kill the sin in our members.

V14-17 The inner man is in Christ and walks after the Spirit.

All Christians because of the standing of the inner man are sons of God  and as children of God are joint-heirs with Christ.

·        V17 with V27 What better witness than the Holy Spirit
