Chapters 5 Part 2   September 13

The Two Men

V5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

·        See Romans 3:23

V18-19 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. 19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

·        1Corinthians 15:21-22 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.  22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

·        1Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

By Adam sin, death and judgment came upon all men. John 3:18 makes it clear that all are condemned until they have Christ

In times trial Do not blame God - blame Adam,

V13-14a (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14a Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression,

·        The world is what is going on upon the earth (See 1Samuel 2:8; Romans 10:18; 2Corinthians 5:19). There is no sin in the earth but there is sin in the world because man is in the world.

·        .Before the law "thou shalt not kill" murder was not a transgression of the law, but it was sin.

·        There was a law for Adam (Genesis 2:17). He knew he transgresses the law. He was the only one who evev transgressed this law.

·        From Adam to Moses the individual sin was not imputed until the law. Before the law was delivered man died in sin unless the righteousness of God was accounted unto the individual.

·        After the law was delivered individual sins were imputed to man. So from Moses until now man not only dies in sin but also in sins.

·        Romans 1:32 proved man knew he sinned even before the law.

·        The law proved all men are sinners and defined individual sin.

·        "The wages of sin" began with Adam not the law.

V15-21 What Paul wanted these early Christians to learn.

·        The last Adam has power to over come everything the first Adam caused to come into the world

·        The law was sent into the world (man's actions0 so the iniquity or evilness of individual sin could be known

·        The evilness of sin was made known so the greatness of God's grace could be known.

·        when God delivered the law through Moses He was making it possible for man to see the greatness of His grace paving the way for the one that was to come (V14b). The law was proof of the wickedness of man and the need for the savior
