Romans lesson 06 Chapter 2 Part 1 Chapter 2:1-3

V1a ¶ Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest:

"O man" is an all inclusive phrase it leaves no one out; saved, lost, Jew, Gentile

Why is therefore there for? Because of V1:32. Every man has the inherited knowledge of good and evil and also knows evil acts deserve death.

When you read the first part of verse 2:1 does Matthew 7:1 come to mind? ¶ Judge not, that ye be not judged. come into mind? Matthew 7:1 may be the most loved verse in the Bible by the world; because they do not know the context of the verse and other scripture that comment on it. In fact Matthew 7:1 cannot be understood without knowing 7:2-4 and closing with 7:6. In Matthew 7:1-5 Jesus is speaking against those Jews who judge the sin of others when they themselves are also sinning; judging hypocritically.

Romans 2:1a is explained in 1c for thou that judgest doest the same things. That is judging the sins of others hypocritically.

Read Romans 2:1-3 Note the things in these verses 2:1 same things - 2:2 such things - 2:3 such things (with the same)

What things: 1:28 those things (which are not convenient) and 1:32 such things (with the same)

Note that Verses 1:28-32 is one sentence. The those things of V28 and the such things of V32 are listed in Vs29-31.

The same things and such things in 2:1-3 are the things listed in 1:29-31

Before going on we must ask this question, "Are we to judge"?

We are told how we are to judge the actions of others.

Why must judgment be made?
