Romans 1:2 is parenthesis between the gospel of V1 that Paul was separated unto and the Son of God spoken of in Vs3-4. Salvation was promised by the prophets before the birth of Christ in their inspired writings, holy scripture. The gospel was promised in Old Testament scripture, coming through the servant of God (Isaiah 52:13)
