Hebrews Chapter 10 Part 1

The Law and The Man Christ Jesus

Vs1-4 The weakness of the law:

V1a A shadow is an obscure representation, lacking substance. The law was an unclear representation of the good things to come, lacking the substance of those good things.

Vs 1b-4 The endless stream of blood from the bulls and goats sacrificed for sin made no one perfect. Their blood did not take away sin only covered it. (Ps 32:1; 85:1-2) They received temporary atonement and remission. The continual offering of sacrifices under the law caused sin to be remembered by those offering the sacrifice and by God.

·       The weakness of the law was in the end of life of all the sacrifices and the complete corruption of the bodies consumed by fire. There was no complete remission of sin because sin was remembered

Vs 5-21 The strength of the man Christ Jesus: The offering of the body of Christ accomplished what the law could not. The new and living way [V20]: The body of Christ was not consumed by the fire it was raised from the dead.

·       “The good things to come [V1]” Heb 9:11 The work of Our High Priest Jesus Christ in the true tabernacle Heb 8:2

·       V14 All who are set apart for a holy purpose are made perfect through Christ. Col 1:22,28

·       V15-17 Through the offering of the Christ came the witness of the Holy Ghost to those Christian Jews that the prophesy of Jer 31:33-34 will come true. Rom 4:21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

·       V18 The offering of the body of Christ brought remission of sin for those Christian Jews and Jews in the future.

·       Vs 19-21 The shed blood Christ brought a high priest over the house of God 1Tim 3:15 – the local church after the new and living way - the power of an endless life of their High Priest - Heb 7:16

·       This high priest allowed them to have bold access to God. Heb 4:15-16

·       V20 The veil of the tabernacle shielded the priests and from the glory of God. The priest knew what was behind the veil and the end of those who went behind the veil unworthily.

Ø    The flesh of Jesus Christ covered the fullness of the Godhead Col 2:9

Ø    When the veil was rent in twain Mark 15:38 the office of the high priest ended. The glory of the Lord had left the temple.

Ø    When the whip shredded the flesh of the Son of God a new High Priest was coming that would allow direct access to the holiest. Heb 10:19

Vs 22-25 Their duty to their [our] High Priest   Gal 6:10

V22 Draw neat to the Holiest with a true heart, Hold fast to our profession of our Faith; Live as if they were saved. Accept the fact that our past sins have been forgiven and FORGOTTEN!

V23 with Heb 4:14-15 and Eph 4:14-17

V24 let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

·       Remember Gal 6:10 with Rom 14:19, 15:14 )

V25 How were they to provoke one another to good works: Do not stop coming to church! [meeting with other Christians] Your coming is an encouragement to others.
