The Gospel According To John 2: Behold The Lamb

The Gospel according to John declares Jesus is the Lord God, The maker and redeemer of Israel.

John 1:29, 36 Behold the Lamb of God

·       The Lamb of God is one of the names of Jesus.

Revelation 1:1-2 The Revelation of Jesus Christ that John saw and recorded. Consider how Jesus Christ is revealed to the nation of Israel and the Jews.

·       Christ = Messiah (John 1:41, 4:25)

·       The nation of Israel will see Jesus as the Messiah they have been looking for who will bring in the kingdom they have been looking for (Acts 1:6)

·       Revelation reveals Jesus Christ as “The Lamb”.

In the gospel according to John, John the Baptist declares the man Jesus to be the Lamb of God.  (John 1:29, 36)

New Testament: Christ is seen in 532 Verses; Lamb is seen in 31

Revelation: Christ is seen in 10 verses; Lamb is seen in 27

·       Paul never teaches about the Lamb slain in his epistles to the churches. His message is Christ crucified.

·       “Lamb” is for Israel.

·       Acts 8:31 and 1Peter 1:19 are the only other verses lamb is seen in the New Testament outside of the book of The Revelation of Jesus Christ (27 verses). Both of these verses are addressed to the Jews.

During the Tribulation Israel will behold the of God Lamb.

The Passover

Exodus 12:3-7, 12, 21, 27;

·       Matthew 26:17; Mark 14:12 kill and eat the passover

·       The lamb was the Passover

Exodus 12:13, 23 The Pass Over

·       The LORD passed over the houses that were under the blood of the Passover. These houses were spared from the judgment of the LORD.

·       The Jews were as wicked as the Egyptians. The LORD looked at the houses and saw the blood of the Passover and not the wickedness of the people and passed over and did not enter those houses.

·       The Pass Over is not the same as the Passover

The death of the Passover redeemed the nation of Israel, the LORD’s first born son. The “pass over” was the mercy applied to those houses.

·       The Passover was not a sacrifice for sin; the flesh was eaten. The flesh of the sin offering was burned without the camp (Exodus 29:14; Lev 4:12).

·       The sin offering was not a male lamb.

Exodus 34:25 the feast of the Passover

The feast of the Passover was about the Passover not the Pass Over

When Israel sees the Lamb of Revelation they will see their Passover

Those under the blood of the Lamb will be Passed Over again. Spared from the judgment that will come upon the Gentile nations, Satan and his angels, and all who reject the Lamb.

(Ex 12:12; Numbers 33:4)

The Passover is not the pass over. The feast of the Passover was (is) to remember the pass over but is is centered around the Passover. The Passover was not an offering for sin.

1Corinthians 5:7 Jesus Christ is the Passover for everyone saved during the church age: Christians. When The Father looks upon us He does not see our wickedness He sees the blood of our Passover. He will not visit His judgment upon us.
