John: His Deity Declared

·       John 1:1; Rev 19:13 His Eternal name: The Word

·       John 1:14, 1John 1:1-3, 5:7, 1Tim 3:1 6 declare the deity of Jesus Christ.

John 1:15, 27, 30 (Mt 3:11; Mr 1:7) He was born after John, but existed before John.

The King of Israel

·       In Mt 27:42 and Mr 15:32 while Jesus was on the cross He was mockingly called the King of Israel by the scribes, the priests and those who passed by the cross.

·       In John 1:49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

·       1Sam 12:12 the LORD their God was their king.

·       Jesus is the Lord their God

·       John 12:13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Ø    Matthew 21:9 – Son of David; Mark 11:9 blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

John 10 is the answer to the question of the Pharisees in V9:40, “are we blind also?” Their blindness had to do with the fact that Jesus is God. (See V9:32-33, 38-39)

V30 I and my Father are one.

·       V33 .  .  . being a man, makest thyself God.

·       The Pharisees knew he claimed to be God in this verse.

·       V17:11,22

Vs7, 9 The door of the sheep

·       V9 makes is plain this parable (V6) is about being saved.

·       V14:6 the way, the truth, and the way life. Salvation is being with the Father.

·       Ezek 34:30-32; Ps 79:13, 95:7, 100:3

Vs11, 14 The good shepherd

·       Ezek 34:11-16; Luke 15:6

Ø    John 21:16-17 Peter, feed my sheep: the Jews

·       Their Shepherd is He who dwellest between the cherubims

Ø    The mercy seat in the tabernacle in the wilderness.

Ø    Psalm 80:1, Isaiah 37:16, 2Kings 19:15

Ø    The man Jesus declared to be

v   LORD God of Israel

v   LORD of hosts, God of Israel

v   The God

v   The glory of God.
