The Joy that was set before him           March 17, 2024

From Webster: JOY is a delight of the mind, from the consideration of the present or assured approaching possession of a good.

·       Biblical hope: earnest expectation of what is going to come about. Biblical joy is the inward result of hope. It is the assurance that regardless of the circumstances all is well with my soul.

·        Rejoicing: the outward expression of inward joy [Phil 4:4]

Hebrews 12:1-3 (2) Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Lu 24:25-26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, And to enter into his glory?

·       This verse does not say to receive his glory. It states Christ would suffer and also enter into His glory.

·       John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. [Isaiah 6:1-2; Eze 1:26-28]

Ø    Mat 17:2 is a preview of what Christ has entered into.

·       When the Word was made flesh and walked upon this earth the fullness of His glory was left in heaven with the Father.

·       When He ascended and set down at the right hand of the Father He was seated in all the glory He had before the foundation of the world. [Col 3:1

·       Ought not: it was necessary that Christ endure the cross and ascend into his glory in heaven before He could experience the joy that would follow.

Luke 15:10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

·       Webster Joy: A glorious and triumphant state.

·       Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

·       Eph 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: [Eph 1:20]

·       It is Christ’s joy that is in the presence the angels. His joy over one who gets saved. He rejoices in their presence!

#1- The Joy that was set before Him: The exceeding  joy Christ has every time He presents a new Christian at the right hand of the Father, in the presence of His glory. He rejoices exceedingly in the presence of the angels in heaven.

John 15:11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

John 17:13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves

·       1Pe 1:8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

Ø    Col 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

·       That joy unspeakable we have in Christ is his joy. Try to find the words to explain this.

1Pe 4:13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy

·       1Th 2:19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?

·       The joy we will experience when we are in the presence of the glory of Christ will not be just the unspeakable joy we have today; it will be exceeding joy! It will far exceed any joy we experience today.

#2 - The Joy that was set before Him: The unspeakable joy we have today and the exceeding joy we will have when we are in the presence of His glory.

Isaiah 65:18-19

·       De 30:9; Isa 62:5; Jer 32:41; Zep 3:17; Zech 8

#3 - The Joy that was set before Him:  When the Lord will be able to rejoice (in) Jerusalem and joy in His people, the Jews, for ever and ever. His inner joy is going to be expressed openly.

The joy that was set before Him

·       During this dispensation of God’s gospel of grace it is over you and I.

·       In the future it will be over Jerusalem and His people.
