The Kings of The Northern Kingdom Of Israel

Compare 1K 12:28 and Ex 32:4.

·       Aaron responded to the will of the people (gave them the gods they wanted) Ex 32:4 They (the people) said – Jeroboam had the people respond to his will 1K 12:28 the king (Jeroboam) said

·       In Ex 32 the sons of Levi killed 3000 men who chose not to follow the LORD. Jeroboam ran those who wanted to follow the LORD out of Israel to Jerusalem.

·       The lasting sin in both accounts was choosing to worship gods of their own making: the sin of blasphemy - - - the history of both kingdoms.  

Ø    The LORD God is no more than the golden calf we made.

Ø    God does not deserve our undivided worship

 

The prophesy of the man of God 1K 13:34 And this thing became sin unto the house of Jeroboam, even to cut it off, and to destroy it from off the face of the earth. 1K 14:10-14

·       2Chr 13 When Abijah son of Rehoboam reigned over Judah he went to battle against Jeroboam with an army half the size of that of Jeroboam’s. [V13]. Abijah prevailed  [V18]

·       V20 The LORD struck Jeroboam and he died

·       1K 15:27-29 Baasha smote all the house of Jeroboam.

·       Elah the son of Baasha was killed by Zimri one of his captains. The people conspired against Zimri because he killed Elah and made Omri king. Zimri committed suicide when he saw his city was taken.

 

The house of Omri – the support of the people

·       1K16:23,25 Omri did worse than all that were before him.

·       1K 16:29-30,33 Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD above all that were before him.

·       1K 22:51-53 Ahaziah the son of Ahab built upon the sin of Ahab

·       2K 3:1-3 Jehoram (also called Joram 2K 8:16)  the son of Ahab was not quite as bad as his father but he cleaved unto the sins of Jeroboam

·       The wickedness of the house of Omri rooted in the sins of Jeroboam.

 

Jehu anointed by the LORD to be king over Israel 2K 9:1-7

·       Mat 26:7, Mar 14:3, Luke 7:37 The alabaster box of ointment was poured out upon Jesus to his burial. (Mk 14:8)

·       Jehu was anointed to the death of the house of Ahab

Jehu anointed to the end of the wickedness of the house of Ahab. Jesus Christ was anointed to his death that will bring the end of the wickedness of man. Heb 9:26

·       With a box of oil both were anointed to bring and end of wickedness: Jehu the wickedness of the house of Ahab and Christ the end of the wickedness of man

2K 9:21,27, 2Chr 22:7-9 God used Jehu to kill Ahaziah king of Judah who joined Jehoram in battle against Jehu and was killed. Jehu also killed the servants of the king of Judah who were found among the family of Ahab.

2K 10:7,11 Jehu slew the 70 sons of Ahab

2K 10:18-28 Jehu destroyed Baal out of Israel and had the worshippers of Baal killed.

2Ki 10:30 And the LORD said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.

·       Jehoahaz, Jehoash, Jeroboam, and Zechariah – all bad

The northern kingdom had the opportunity to worship God through the dispensation of the law in the land of promise b

·       2K 10:31 But Jehu did not walk in the law of the LORD but followed the sins of Jeroboam.

·       Jehu divided his worship and led Israel in false worship
