The Character David

The Character David: the man after God’s own heart.

·       Ch17 David stood in defense of the name of the LORD

·       His wisdom while serving under Saul [1Sam 18:5,14,15,30]

·       David refused to kill Saul. The LORD’s anointed

Ø    24:6,10; 26:10,9,11,16,23

19:19-24 The LORD honors David’s desire to honor Him confounded Saul’s servants and Saul. Saul went to see Samuel, [Samuel did not go to Saul 15:35] The Spirit of God came upon them and instead of taking David they prophesied.

The David I do not understand: I understand David fleeing from Saul and waiting for the LORD to deal with Saul, but I do not understand this David:

·       Ch21 David goes to Ahimelech in Nob the priest and lies to him about being on a special mission for the king and demanded and was given of the hallowed bread {shewbread}.

Ø    The consequences of David action: Ch22:11-18 After Saul learned Ahimelech gave bread to David he sent Doeg to Nob and he killed 85 priest and their entire families.

Ø    22:22 David admitted he caused their death but where is the remorse for his action?

·       David and the enemies of Israel

Ø    Ch21:10 Went to the king of Gath and faked madness

Ø    Ch22:3 Went to Moab and sought a safe place for his family to live.

Ø    Ch27:1 David went to the land of the Philistines so Saul would stop chasing him and V4 Saul sought David no more. While living among Philistines David and his men smote enemies of Israel but, a road was cleared for the Philistines to go and fight Israel. V27 Achish saw this proof that David was his servant.

Ø    Ch29:1 Philistines go to fight the Israelites and David is seen as the rereward or rear guard of Philistines actually seen as protecting Achish.
