Saul And David Part2

Ch19-20 The relationship between David and Jonathan is used by Saul to bring David to him so he could kill David. David escapes with the help of Michal, Saul’s daughter. David fled to Samuel and Saul and his servants go to take David and the Spirit of God comes upon them and they prophesied.

Ch21 David goes to Ahimelech in Nob the priest and lies to him about being on a special mission for the king and demanded and was given of the hallowed bread {shewbread}

·       The consequences of David action: Ch22:11-18 After Saul learned Ahimelech gave bread to David he sent Doeg to Nob and he killed 85 priest and their entire families.

·       22:22 David admitted he caused their death but where is the remorse for his action?

Ch23-24 The LORD gave David a great victory over the Philistines. Saul seek to kill David. But David has the opportunity to kill Saul but he would not kill the LORD’s anounted

·       Ch23:14 .   .  .   And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand.

Ch25 Samuel died. David a very rich man called Nabal and seek food from him. But Nabal said,” v10-11Who is David? and who is the son of Jesse?”.

Nabal’s wife, Abigail, gave food to David and the LORD smote Nabal. David takes Abigail and Ahinoam of Jezreel for his wives.

Ch26 David had the opportunity to kill Saul but does not

Ch27:1 David went to the land of the Philistines so Saul would stop chasing him and V4 Saul sought David no more. While living among Philistines David and his men smote enemies of Israel but, a road was cleared for the Philistines to go and fight Israel. V27 Achish saw this proof that David was his servant.

Ch28 Saul and the woman that had a familiar spirit

Ch29:1 Philistines go to fight the Israelites and David is seen as the rereward or rear guard of Philistines actually seen as protecting Achish. The Philistines send David away David did not want to leave the battle See V29:8

Ch30 While the Philistines went to fight Israel. The Amalekites invade their land and take David’s two wives. The LORD gave David a great victory over the Amalekites and rescued his wives and all the spoil.

Ch31 Saul is wounded and actually killed himself. His sons also die in battle. See V8-13As prophesied by Samuel [28:19]

·       V28:19:  .  . to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me

The LORD anointed David with the horn of oil. Saul could not kill him. The LORD honored David in spite of him causing the death of 85 priests and aligning with the Philistines against Israel.

Luke 16:19-31 The account of Lazarus and the certain rich man; the account of the two places of the dead, Abraham’s bosom and torments. Before the death , burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ when a person died his soul went to one of these two places.

·       In Lu 23:43 Jesus said unto the one thief crucified with him, “Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.” This man went to Abraham’s bosom called paradise after he died and was with Jesus.

Of Abraham it is said: Ge 15:6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness. Ro 4:3,9,21-22; Jas 2:23 Abraham. Rom 4:21-22 He was fully persuaded. {FAITH}

Salvation came to Old Testament saints when God accounted His righteousness unto them. Each O.T. saint had to believe something different. Abraham had to fully persuaded about something different than Samuel or David

·       Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [Ro 4:16]

The difference between O.T and N.T the righteousness of God was only accounted unto the O.T. saints. N.T. saint are made to be the righteousness of God [2Cor 5:11]. N.T saints are justified at the moment of salvation. O.T. saints were not justified until Christ rose from the dead. [Rom 4:25]

The death burial and resurrection of Christ declared every person to be savable by being fully persuaded in the same thing, the same way, by being fully persuaded by faith that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: (1Cor 15:3-4)

V28:19:  .  . to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me

·       When Samuel was taken away for Saul he went back to Abraham’s bosom or Paradise.

·       From this verse it seems Saul and his sons joined Samuel in Abraham’s bosom. We may ask how that could be.

·       Isaiah 55:8-9; Ps 7:9; 1Sam16:7

·       1Sa 15:31 So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped the LORD. {acknowledged that the LORD was exalted as head above all.}
