Numbers Part 1: God Separates His People

Chs 5-10:10   Num 9:1 2yrs, 1mo after they left Egypt [Ex 40:17-18]

·       The tabernacle is fully set up [7:1] in

·       9:2 The passover was ordered to be kept in his season.

Ø    The lamb killed and eaten in EX 12

Ø    Christ Our Passover [1Cor 5:7]

·       V10: 9b-10 Remember “I am the LORD your God.”

 

Ch1-4, [Ex 38:26]

Ch 1 Two years and two months after the LORD brought them out of Egypt the LORD ordered the men 20 and older that were able to go to war except for the tribe of Levi [603,550 V46]

·         1:47, 49 Levites not to be numbered among the people

Ch 3 The LORD chose the Levites to do the service of the tabernacle instead of the first born among all the tribes.

The numbering of the Levites separate from the other tribes and they were chosen to do the service of the tabernacle.

·       3:39 The Levites males 1 month and older were numbered - 22,000

·         3:40-51 Numbered the first born males among the other tribes 22,273. The 273 extra had to be redeemed.

·         Ch 2,4 The son of Aaron and the families of the Levites were given specific responsibilities in service of the tabernacle.

 

Ch 10:11 2 yrs., 2mos. 20 days  cloud was taken up from the tabernacle and people they move from the wilderness of Sinai to the wilderness of Paran

Ch 11 Tired of manna they wanted meat. Judgment from the Lord He gave them quails and a plague. Ch 12 Aaron and Miriam question the LORD’s choice of Moses over them. The Lord declares Moses as more than a prophet [Vs6-8]

 

Ch 13-14 Men sent to search out the land of Canaan. Their report was that that the land was all the LORD said it was. But 10 brought an evil report [V12:32] said they could not take the land because there were giants in the land and great walled cities.

·       Their evil report was God brought them into the land to die by the sword [V14:3] and it was better to return to Egypt [blasphemy]. God’s judgment: they would wonder in the wilderness 40 years while those who were twenty years old and over when they came out of Egypt would die in the wilderness. [V14:29]

·       Remember the number in Ch1 God chose the generation that would enter the land of Canaan

 

Ch15 The blue fringe ordered to be so the Jews would remember all the commandments.

Ch 16 Korah opposed Moses and Aaron, denying that they were above the others. The LORD had the earth swallow them up in judgment before the people. [V29-32]

Vs24, 27 the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram these men not only opposed Moses and Aaron whom the LORD sanctified but they opposed the tabernacle of the congregation, opposing God Himself. [Jude 11]
