Exodus begins in silence from God to the Hebrews and silence from the Hebrews to God.

Exodus ends with God communing with His people [Ex 25:22, 40:34]

Ex 5: Moses and Aaron go before the new Pharaoh. Pharaoh denies the God of Moses and makes the affliction greater. The people blame Moses and accuse him of causing Pharaoh to abhor their savior. [5:21]. V22-23 Moses blames the LORD of bringing more evil upon them instead of delivering them.

Ex 6 Moses is reassured: God will keep His promise

·       V1,6 Bring them out, have them driven out with a strong hand; V6 Redeem them with a stretched out arm

Ø    Strong hand, stretched out arm: great judgments

Ø    Ps 136:11-12; Isa 65:2

·       V2-3, 4-5 The fathers knew the name of “God Almighty”. Now the name JEHOVAH will be known. “LORD” is JEHOVAH

Ø    We see that JEHOVAH who established the covenant to give them the land. A one sided covenant dependant only upon the LORD [V8]. The LORD did not forget the promise He gave to His people.

·       V6 .  .  . I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments: Ex 8:6,17; 9:23; 10:13

Ex 7-10 God brings judgment upon Egypt: Promise kept [curse them that curse the seed of Abraham.]

·       Nile River became blood, frogs, lice, flies, plague on the livestock, boils, pestilence, fire of hail, locusts, darkness: Each of these plagues was in some way attacked something worshipped by the Egyptians.

Ex 11-13 The last plague: 12:29 The LORD’s hand and His arm

v   The passover (the lamb) is not the pass over (the act V12:12,23). The feast of the passover celebrates the pass over but is centered around the passover.

·       The LORD redeemed his firstborn [4:22] through the blood of the Passover (the lamb), with His strong hand and stretched out arm.[6:1,6; 13:9 with 15:13]

·       The LORD claimed their firstborn of all the animals and the women

The Red Sea: Ex 14:13 .  .  . see the salvation of the LORD,

·       1Cor 10:1-2 God forever identified His nation with leadership of Moses and his doctrine. The children of Israel were baptized into being a nation, His people.

·       Ex 14:21, 27, 31 And Israel saw that great work which the LORD .  .  .and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.

CH15 Begins with Moses’s the song of praise and ends with a murmuring people getting water.

CH16 God gives his murmuring people manna and quails in the valley of Sin

CH17:1-7 God gives his murmuring people water from the rock in Horeb. V7 The LORD answered their question: Is the LORD among us, or not? [Ps 78]

***1Cor 10:3-5 the Old Testament is the New Testament concealed; The New Testament is the Old Testament revealed.

·       The Jews considered being saved as being saved alive physically. The spiritual aspect was missed by them.

·       V6 We should learn not to lust after the physical

Ch17:8-16 The first battle of the wilderness: Amalek, Esau’s grandson [Ge 36:12]

Ch19-31 Israel camped in Sinai; Moses went up on he mount

·       V19:5-6 the conditional covenant

Ø    If they obey what the LORD said

Ø    If they will keep his covenant: circumcision

Ø    they will be a kingdom of priests (Isa 66:21).

·       Ch 20 God speaks the Ten Commandments Moses and Aaron on Mt. Sinai.                                                                                   

·       Ch 24-31 Moses received instructions for the building of the tabernacle after the pattern of the true tabernacle in Heaven that the LORD shewed him V25:9, Heb 8:2]

Ø    Note: the tabernacle of the congregation included the courtyard and the tent

·       Ch 28-29, 30 The priesthood of Aaron and his sons established.

·       Ch 31 The LORD gives Moses the first tables with the Ten Commandments

CH 32 The golden calf is made. The people wanted Aaron to make “gods” [Ex 12:12].   [Acts 7:39-41] the amount of time Moses was out of site of the people they feared he had died. They wanted make their own gods, the work of their hands, the gods they had worshipped in Egypt [Isa 2:8].

Ø    V25 Aaron made the people naked [The failure to worship God through the promise is tied to the failure of innocence and conscience]. Their shame was seen by their enemies. The enemies of Israel were watching. [Ps 74:18]

Ø    The Levites choose to stand with the LORD and they killed 300,000 men

Ch 34-39 Moses delivered the Ten Commandments and all the LORD had spoken [34:32] to the people and everything for the tabernacle was made.

Ch 40 Moses reared up the tabernacle and the glory of the LORD and His glory filled the tabernacle. Exodus begins with the children of Israel living comfortably in Egypt. Exodus ends with the LORD, Jehovah, dwelling before the nation of Israel in the tabernacle.

The dispensation of “The law” is introduced in Exodus.
