“Exodus” is a noun: A departure, actually “The Departure”.

Dispensation of Promise Continued

The Dispensation of Promise Part 2: God bless them that blesses Abraham’s seed will curse them that curses them, give them the Land of Promise and make them great in number. They would leave Egypt a wealthy nation. [Gen 15:12-14]

·       The seed of Abraham was to worship the LORD by acknowledging that he was exalted as head above all [Psalm 83:18 the most High]through believing that what God promised He was able to perform [Rom 4:21] and looking for Him to perform His promise, believing nothing could stop His promise.

1:1-7 After the death of the patriarchs [Acts 7:8-9] the Hebrews were living comfortably in Egypt and rapidly growing in number.

·       There is no record of the Hebrews worshipping God and no record of God speaking to them after the death of Joseph until in Ex 4:29-31 Moses returned to Egypt and Aaron spoke and performed the signs in the sight of the people than the people bowed their heads in worship.

**God proved His promise to be sure: When Egypt blessed the Hebrews Egypt was blessed

Acts 7:17 with Genesis 50:24

1:8-11 ¶ Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph. Acts 7:18

·       In Gen 15:12-14 A nation will afflict them four hundred years.; That nation will be judged. The Jews would come out with great substance. [Acts 7:6]

·       Ex 12:40 Now the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years.

Ř    I believe the sojourn in Egypt would have started after the death of Joseph [Gen 50:26]. From 50:23 Joseph lived around 80 years after the birth of Ephraim.

***God proves His promise to be sure

·       1:9-20; the more they were afflicted the more they grew in number.

·       1:21 The midwives blessed the seed of Abraham by saving the male children alive and God blessed them. God made them houses or families during the affliction.

·       Note the battle of the seeds: Satan tried to destroy Israel by trying to kill all the male babies. If he killed all future male children eventually the seed of the Hebrew women would only be from Gentile fathers: No more Jews, no messiah. Acts 7:19

>> Consider this: V2:23 “in the process of time” the Pharaoh from whom Moses fled died and after almost 400 years of affliction the Hebrews finally began to cry and grown because of their bondage.

Did they really desire the promise made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob? Do you find anywhere where the people said, “The promise is ours what are we waiting for, let’s go now!” [Ex 14:12] They did not want to leave Egypt, just wanted their burden eased.

****God proves His promise to be sure: He raised the prophet Moses [Acts 7:35]

·       Ex 4:31 And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.

·       Moses the first 40 years [Acts 7:20-22] Learned the pride of royalty.

Ř    2:2-10 The birth of Moses, he was raised in the royal family even though he was known to be Hebrew.

Ř    Moses was highly educated and trained and was mighty in words and deeds. (Acts 7:22)

Ř    Moses knew the consequences he could face when he killed the Egyptian. Heb 11:26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he {Moses} had respect unto the recompence of the reward. [Christ = Messiah John 1:41, 4:25] [He had learned of the promise]

·       Moses the second 40 years: [Acts 7:29-30]:  He learned the humility of a shepherd

Ř    2:11 came to pass in those days – God’s specific time

Ř    2:15-22 In the land of Midian [Gen 25:1-2, 5-6]

·       Moses the last 40 years: [Acts 7:30-36] He knew how to rule with the pride of royalty yet lead with the humble heart of a shepherd.

Ř    2:21 Moses content to remain as a shepherd, so content he was given a wife.

Ř    2:23 it came to pass in process of time – God’s specific time

Ř    3:14 Moses met I AM THAT I AM, the one exalted as head above

Something to consider:

·       From Acts 7:22 we learned Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.

·       In Exodus 4:10 Moses said O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore {before}, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.

·       These two verses speak of the same man.

·       Was Moses so contented being a shepherd [Ex 2:21] that he forgot his brethren in Egypt?
